about us
We are a shop and gallery. We sell vintage
posters, photographs, campaign memorabilia and other documents that relate to
the American political and social experience. Throughout the year we create
focused exhibitions that draw attention to relevant political and social issues.
The gallery is a joint venture between father and son. Jack Banning, a long-time
New York gallerist and his son John Low a Washingtonian of 30 years (don't
get confused by the different names) decided to open a progressive shop in
Kensington, MD near John's home. In business since September of 2003, the gallery
has already played host to a dozen or so exhibitions and plans more political
intrigue for the upcoming summer. Current inventory is comprised of a world
class collection of antique and vintage political and election memorabilia
spanning a century and a half, as well as vernacular photography, poster art and
graphic design from the peace and social justice movement and an eclectic
variety of modern and contemporary art.
Because there is no category for "eclectic shop" in
the Yellow Pages, we call ourselves an art gallery. A better description might
be "connoisseurs of the interesting!"
